For Hydrating Humanity to train local people individually would require too many resources, be cumbersome and cost precious time we do not have. Join with us by sponsoring a project where we will work together to reach an entire village with health and hygiene training. Waterborne disease is one of the greatest killers of children in Africa, 2nd only to Malaria. Waterborne diseases are completely preventable! What we are proposing is a program that includes partnering with businesses, churches and individuals who will sponsor Villages to receive health and hygiene training and proper sanitation.
When introducing a new way of thinking into any group or culture, it is important to take the whole group through the same instructions at the same time. We have found that the success rate is much higher compared to parceling out only part of the population at a time. In order to reach a generation, we must reach that generation together. Simple hand hygiene lessons literally save children’s lives in some of the regions we are working in presently. Lack of proper hand hygiene is the single greatest contributor to the spreading of waterborne disease.
A Certified Health and Hygiene Teacher will spend a full day with a target village gathering information about that village’s particular conditions as it relates to water collection, basic hand hygiene, health and hygiene practices and sanitation. Then, after discussing their findings with the rest of the teaching team at Hydrating Humanity, a custom tailored plan will be formed to reach that particular village. Announcements will then be made to the village of a future time and date for an all-day workshop to be held somewhere near the village center. A small team of HH representatives (including both certified teachers and student teachers) will arrive on the scene with the Hydrating Humanity Health and Hygiene Curriculum and hold the workshop. Follow-up will be determined according to each village’s needs. Villages average from between 300 and 1500 persons.
Cost: The one-time cost to Train A Village is only $90. That includes a workshop performed by a Hydrating Humanity Certified Health and Hygiene Teacher who is proficient in the participatory method for teaching the HH Hygiene Training Curriculum. Each sponsor will be notified of their particular village name and receive a photograph of the village receiving health and hygiene training.
